About the event
We invite you to a guest lecture Where is Southeast Asia in the Indo-Pacific? delivered by Dr. Felix Heiduk, Head of Research Division Asia, German Institute for International and Security Affairs/Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, Berlin.
Geographically, Southeast Asia occupies a pivotal position, located at the crossroads between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This strategic location has made it a focal point for both great and middle powers, who seek to engage with the region due to its central role in global trade and security. Despite its significance, however, Southeast Asia has historically occupied a peripheral role in the broader geopolitical landscape of the Indo-Pacific. So, why is this the case? And what influence does Southeast Asia hold within the context of the ongoing Sino-US rivalry?
